How To Use Martial Arts In Freelancing

February 16, 2009

Tired of a lack of self-discipline? Try some martial arts. Many freelancers suffer from the self-alienated blues due to confinement within their own home. Now, although we enjoy our work, we need some accountability. Sometimes, we have to be that for ourselves and, if you’re like me, sometimes need a good “push” in the right direction. This is where martial arts weaves its magic.

Now, martial arts can be a bit off-putting at first, especially for budget conscious freelancers, as it can become an extra weekly cost as well as timely. However, if we are truly thinking about ourselves, that extra time and money would pay dividends because we are using it to work and improve ourselves. Just like the creative work we take so much pride in, martial arts is an art that continuously provides benefits in mind, body and spirit.

My personal favorites include Aikido and Kali. What are yours and how, if so, do they benefit your life as a freelancer?
